Helen F. Shirley: A Life of Creativity in the Livermore Valley
Oct. 1, 1931-Dec. 4, 2015

Helen F. Shirley made the Livermore Valley, California her home for more than sixty years, arriving in 1952 and remaining there until her passing in 2015. During that time, she became a deeply respected and wonderfully talented artist whose creativity touched both her family and her community.
Art and music were always central to Helen’s life. A gifted musician, she played the piano and guitar and lovingly sang to her five children as they grew up, filling their home with warmth, encouragement, and creativity. Her artistic journey expanded when she began taking art classes in her early forties, discovering a passion that would flourish for the rest of her life.
Helen became best known for her watercolor paintings, often enhanced with white ink accents that created her distinctive designs. She was also celebrated for her Flower and Vegetable paintings. Open to learning and experimentation, Helen explored many artistic techniques and dabbled in a wide range of art forms. Over the years, she sold hundreds of paintings to collectors around the world.
The paintings shown in this exhibition reflect Helen’s love of color, nature, and detail. We hope you enjoy the show and the opportunity to experience her work.
Helen’s daughter, Bobbie Shirley, who has been part of the La Ventana community for over 26 years, is proud to present and offer her mother’s paintings for sale. Through this exhibition, she hopes to honor Helen’s artistic legacy while supporting local nonprofits. Proceeds from all sales throughout the season will benefit the Ambulance Project and the Azul Cerralvo Foundation.
